On the shores of Lake Arenal and the valley of the Cano Negro river, surrounded by the Children Eternal Forest and the Arenal Forest Reserve you will find our little piece of paradise that we call Rancho Margot. Just 15 km from the Monteverde Biological Reserve, Rancho Margot has its own unique microclimate. A steady gentle breeze, flowing mountain rivers, Lake Arenal and the Arenal volcano contribute to maintaining a comfortable temperature and friendly environment year around.

Rancho Margot is owned by the Sostheim family who upon visiting Costa Rica fell in love with Lake Arenal and its surrounding area. As luck would have it, they were able to purchase approximately 400 acres on the shores of the lake with beautiful volcano views, primary rainforest, eleven natural springs and the largest river feeding Lake Arenal flowing through the property. Having traveled all over the world and witnessed the devastation that had occurred in other “paradises”, the family decided to develop Rancho Margot as a sustainable self-sufficient tourist destination who’s focus would be to protect and reforest the area. To this end, Rancho Margot entered into an agreement with the Liga Conservacionista de Monteverde and as a result the Rancho Margot Ranger Station for the Children’s Eternal Forest was created.

Blessed by this good fortune and the majesty of our surroundings and in order to finance our objectives we decided to create a family environment where you will find adventure, accommodations, education, conservationism and an organic working ranch design to inspire and share knowledge with our visitors.
